That's very cool.
Look at this extension which implements a DIN style dimension. - it correctly uses the svg:defs to hold the arrow description for reuse. - has lines at the ends for delimiters. - https://github.com/Rutzmoser/inkscape_dimensioning
I've been developing one for arcs also.(not up yet) Currently it looks to me like the best way is to develop it into a 'dimensionable' class on top of inkex.effect. This way it'll be useful for anyone who wants to dimension an object easily. They can just swap out inkex.effect for inkex.dimensionable
E.g. check out the conus which uses it manually inserted - https://inkscape.org/en/~quirxi/%E2%98%85sheet-metal-cone+0
Ideally we'd like to get it into the distribution proper... Perhaps Jabier you can use these ideas to extend yours. ?

Great! I think I could implement:
* Vertical and horizontal measure, cool!
* Optional line delimiters
* Option to use units but not display it
* Add arrows automaticaly to measure in svg:defs, at this point I have some question: ¿There is a Standar way to it? DIN arrows seems similar in both extensions, How to scale it? relative to line width or size is fixed by spec?
* maybe I could do a optional angle measure
I hope the LPE not become too complex, maybe also add a collapsable to all not DIN related measure things.
Thanks for the feedback.

The DIN size is standard and fixed.
Maybe other styles could be added. but DIN is that specific arrow in that size.(so is line width)

Well, that depends on the line group which depends on the paper size. And it seems you are using the wrong line widths, at least according to DIN 15 which states that for line group 0.7 (which you seem to use) the measuring lines have to be 0.35 wide. Your extension uses 0.5 for the "Maßshilfslinien" (no idea about the English term) and .75 for the actual line with the arrows instead. Would it be possible to fix that, and maybe add a selector for the line group (0.5 or 0.7)? And maybe even a way to set the font used, I prefer OSI for that.
That being said, thank you so much for a nicely working DIN measuring tool! I can finally stop drawing all these lines manually. :-)

Hi Tobias thanks for your imput, my english is not so good, culd you fill the selected "table"?
Sure, no problem.
In every line group there are 3 line widths. The thick one is used for the general drawing, so it's not relevant for this extension. The thin lines are used for the dimension lines, extension lines and similar. The medium lines are only used for some symbols and for text. So in theory that would be of interest for the numbers printed, however, as we are most likely using regular text it can be ignored.
(Of course there are more cases where lines are drawn, but that's beyond the scope of the explanation).
That leaves us with only one line width per line group which is needed for the whole extension, namely the thin ones.
For line group 0.7 everything should be drawn with 0.35 mm wide lines, for line group 0.5 it is 0.25 mm.
In case anyone is curious, the thick lines are 0.7 mm and 0.5 mm. The medium ones are 0.5 mm and 0.35 mm. But as I said, none of those should be used for dimensionings according to DIN 15 / DIN ISO 128.
Some examples can be seen here:
http://www.maelabs.ucsd.edu/mae_guides/cad/dimensioning/ dimensioning_fundementals.htm
Line Group 0.7 "Maßshilfslinien" 0.35
Yes.
"Lines" 0.5
No, 0.35, too. At least for the dimensioning lines.
"Arrows" Extension are OK "Font" OSI Line Group 0.5 "Maßshilfslinien" ? "Lines" ?
0.25
"Arro ws" Extension are OK "Font" OSI
OSI font is a nice plus, I presonally use
https://github.com/hikikomori82/osifont
More Line Groups?
No, 0.7 and 0.5 is all that is needed.
Thanks in advance.
You are welcome. I am looking forward to the final LPE!

Great info Tobias, thanks. I will feed it back to the original extension author. I've also started an arc dimensioning tool. It will use same info.

Great. Just one more thing about the arrows: they are slightly too big in the extension linked by Mark. The angle of the tip is correct (15°), however it is supposed to be 10 times the line width long, so with 0.25 mm lines it's to be 2.5 mm long (line group 0.5) and with 0.35 mm thick lines it's 3.5 mm (line group 0.7).
If you need any more info or want me to test something just ping me on IRC (nick: houz).
Cheers, Jabier.

Cool, make sure to send a link!

PS: Wouldn't it be great if these technical specs were published for free somewhere instead of paying about 100 € per DIN? </rant>

Looks awesome! Can an option be added to change the spacing between the number and the unit?

Thanks, I do it, finaly I need another collapsable :) The number.unit is insensitive -locked, maybe also I add an option to override it, not sure.
Cheers, Jabier.
