Is it possible to admin the mail list so that there is a
Reply-to: Inkscape Devel List inkscape-devel@lists.sourceforge.net
header in the messages? In other words, shouldn't the default recipient of a reply be the list?
Just wondering. Currently the replies are going to the sender by default.

Yes this is configurable in Mailman:
Where are replies to list messages directed? Poster is strongly recommended for most mailing lists. [X] Poster [ ] This list [ ] Explicit address

Well, what about senders who have to set their own reply-to headers for the sake of private replies? I don't think nuking them is a terribly good idea.
Which email client are you using? Most have a 'reply to list' feature.

I use Thunderbird (which I love). It has a "Reply" and a "Reply All" on it. To send to the list, one needs to reply to the To: address, which seems a bit paradoxical. ;)
The 'inkscape' room at conference.gristle.org has its own touch of humor, too. When you join the room, it reports:
This room (inkscape@...132...) is not anonymous
...which is a bit of a tautological statement. In other words, "the room with this name is not a room without a name!"

But isn't that precisely what you're want if you're sending your reply to the list?

I believe that (by way of jargon) refers to the anonymitiy of the users.

Exactly...
However for mozilla (and I assume Thunderbird) "Reply" sends to the 'Reply-to' address, not the 'From', nor the 'To:'
So you either have to Reply-all and trim, or manually change the reply

Sending to Reply-to is the only conformant behavior; the purpose of Reply-to being to handle situations where a sender can send from an email address, but not (for whatever reason) receive mail there. It does happen.
Consequently, destroying the Reply-to information by replacing it with that of the list can wipe out any clues as to how to contact the original sender privately, should one want to do so.

Reply-all and trim isn't so bad, is it?
I'm really rather shocked that Mozilla doesn't have a "reply to list" function, though. I could have sworn it did (I only have Firebird installed, so I can't easily check).

Pine also lacks a reply-to-list capability. I have to always reply-all and trim, although usually I forget. ;-)
