inkscape history/timeline

Hi all,
Cornelius asked on IRC how long the feature freeze had been prior to 0.43, which got me thinking that it would be really useful to have a page on the wiki with a year-by-year history. I think this could be useful both as an internal reference and for other open-source projects to see how inkscape has progressed.
I've bootstrapped this page with what I can deduce from the sourceforge release listings.

If you have memories of particular milestones, it would be great to see a year-by-year timeline, maybe even links to progressive screenshots.
Thanks, Eric

Here's a curious bit from Inkscape prehistory. As can be seen from this screenshot:
http://www.sodipodi.com/screenshots/ancient/features.jpg
the original Sodipodi interface was much closer to the current Inkscape interface, compared to the Sodipodi UI at the time of the fork.
Something to think about, I guess...

We need an Inkscape historian ;)
Here's a page of the about screens that I threw together a while ago:

Mental helped fix some of the SVG files, and it really could use more annotation, but it is still fun.

Thanks, I added that. Does anyone know of mailing list archives from 98 or 99 that would document the origins of the sodipodi project?
Thanks, Eric

As I understood it, prior to the SourceForge list, there wasn't a mailing list, and whatever emails occurred are not available.
I wrote up a brief history in our man page a while back, that could be used as a starting point.

Thanks, Eric -- Minus 1 million points for not setting your clock forward and trying the code.
