Re: [s4-p18] Re: Mail à destination des développeurs d'Inkscape
Greetings to all the Inkscape development community !
We are a team of 7 students from a Grande Ecole of engineering in France (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne). As part of a school project, we are to develop a software which converts SVG files to PostScript.
After looking for and testing different solutions, we figured out that Inkscape was our favorite to do this job.
Nevertheless, Inkscape does not come up to all our expectations. Therefore, we would like to do some improvements which could benefit the whole community of Inkscape users.
First of all, we wish to improve the management of fonts in the conversion process. In addition, we intend to add backup for transparency and superimposing in the export to PS (likely the way of Adobe Illustrator).
Eventually, if not short of time then, we could focus on enhancing the Inkscape command-line interface (in the idea of processing many files in a row (batch process)).
Now, here we go : if anyone around has already worked on these issues, and is ready to communicate with us, so that we might start on a firm and good foundation, we are more ready than ever to listen to everything you've got : information, advice, tips, whatever.
You can contact us on the email address : s4-p18@...796...
Best regards,

Heh, just today we discussed this issue. This is certainly a feature that some users will appreciate. Just please make it optional.

I would like to discuss this, as I'm working (among other things) on the command line interface. What are you planning to add or change?
Perhaps the best way to get acquainted with the code is to fix some related bugs. For example here's one for PS export:

The relevant code is mostly in src/extensions/internal/ps.cpp. Feel free to ask any questions.
