Is a display table free for a open source project like Inkscape ? Several members of the Inkscape team will be there and might be able to pull together a display.
John,
At the moment we are evaluating whether we can accept more groups to exhibit. As soon as we've determined that we have room I will let you know.
We are also exploring the possibility of having Birds of a Feather sessions.

Hi Gareth, I hope you can do both but understand the challenges of working with hotels. I believe Ted Gould submitted a paper on Inkscape that didn't make the schedule but would make a great BOF.
Inkscapers: Can we pull together a display if we get the table top ?

I took off the SCALE guy.

Yeah, I think we could probably put something together. But, I've never had a booth before, so I'm not sure what that'll entail. I imagine the best thing is to pull out some of the examples and make them into hard copies. I've also got the flier that Mr. Docs made for us a while ago, perhaps that can be updated also.

Well, it depends on whether SCALE can come up with table space. (Gareth, any word ?)
For the booth, the panels are four 36"x32" cloth panels that are arranged in a semi-square on the table. I usually hang pictures mounted on foamcore boards(usually made at Kinkos - btw cheap foamcore warps, better stuff doesn't) with self-adhesive velcro(buy in Wal-Mart) - I put a tablecloth over the table and put any handouts on the table. There's no need to necessarily man the booth though sometimes it's fun. Remember, people are usually viewing from a distance (ie 5-10 feet) so pictures and text need to be large. Probably need one big "Inkscape" sign. I usually put a basket of chocolates on the table - really draws people (if we get the booth I'll bring the chocolates!).

Oh, there is going to be chocolate! I'm definitely coming now!
Let's wait a week and see what the SCALE guys can come up with, then we'll start making plans. I've got a small Graphire tablet -- but I'll see if I can't borrow one of the larger ones from the art guys at work. Does anyone know a Wacom sales rep in LA? Perhaps we could get some loaner demo tablets.

If it's like LWE, basically they give you an ethernet drop and a power outlet, a table and a few chairs. There may be a sign on your booth, but it's usually worthwhile to bring something large you can hang up over it. It's worthwhile to have a system set up that you can demo on (e.g., an lcd, mouse, and keyboard attached to a laptop). Handouts are a great idea; brochures especially - you can go through a huge stack of them in a few hours.
For one OSS project, the boothies also brought a stack of CDRs and cases and sold them there at the booth, which helped cover the cost of the booth display materials and attendance.
