FW: Screenshot für Inkscape ins nächste c't-Heft
Bruce,
the writer for this german computer magazin C't wanted to add a screenshot in their next issue.
He is asking wheter he can just take one from the web page without conflicting any copyrights. This is very urgent as he has to finalize his article tomorrow morning. BTW: do they exists in svg format also ?
Thanks,
Adib. ----

Hallo Herr Taraben,

I have been a reader of this magazine for a -very- long time. It is far better than most, good or better than anything in the US. It is a very hands-on magazine.... I once built a single-board computer where they provided the printed circuit patterns in the magazine. It has a bit of the flavor of Wired in it, but can get very technical, like Dr Dobbs or Circuit Cellar.
Getting Inkscape into this magazine would be awesome. I would gladly make the 45 minute trip downtown to get a paper copy of this with Inkscape in it.
Bob
The copyright for most of the images on the screenshots page are held by Bulia so he would need to give particular permissions for their use.
However, there are some additional screenshots at this location which are available under Public Domain terms that you can freely use:
http://www.openclipart.org/screenshots/screenshot_110.png http://www.openclipart.org/screenshots/screenshot_109.png http://www.openclipart.org/screenshots/screenshot_104.png
Note that these are older versions of the program, but if the editor is in a hurry they may do in a pinch. Probably the best solution would be for you or he to create some screenshots particularly for this magazine. If you need some sample art to show off, there is lots of material under the Public Domain here:
Hope this helps! Bryce

NOOO, please don't use this last one anywhere. It shows the old and ugly gradient editing interface. I'm trying to make people forget it as a bad dream.
As for Inkscape screenshots that I made for inkscape.org/screenshots, I hereby give my permission to use them for any purpose you like, without asking me :)

Bulia,
it is difficult to say what are yours :-? I am guessing right that all with non mentioned author are your submissions?
Adib.

So anybody object to the addition of a licensing statement on the screenshots page to allow free usage? I would propose Creative Commons Attribution.
Do you feel the need for another page, something like "showcase" in addition to screenshots (of course, also with a free license), which will show wonderful images instead of features? Something along the lines of the "slideshow" from Bryce's DDC presentation.

OK with me, but I think public domain is better

Of course PD is better, but any license which allow 1) redistribution and 2) commercial use is good enough.
I will put a license statement on the page but will need as a requisite approval from all screenshot authors: Aaron Spike, Andy Fitzsimon, Bulya, David Berg, jimmac, rejon, vellum and whoever created 'The Da Vinci Secret'. This or remove from the page all images on which we don't have permission to relicense.

Hi Nicu, You have my permission/approval to use any screenshot images that I have produced. Vellum.

You may do anything you want with my screenshots. Want the SVG too?

I think that'd be a very good idea.

I'd definitely like to see something like this added.

OK, here is it: http://inkscape.org/showcase/ As you can see, I added here just a single image from Bryce's slideshow (http://www.bryceharrington.com/Present_desktopcon/Slideshow/) because this was the only one where I was sure about the license :p
Hmm, since this seems to be quite urgent, I though why not just take a screenshot of what I'm working on right now, and put it up? I mean heck, of course anybody can use a damn screenshot I make for the c't ;)
They can be found at http://home.tu-clausthal.de/~dcb/linux/inkscape1.png and http://home.tu-clausthal.de/~dcb/linux/inkscape2.png
It'd be cool if someone had something with Text on Path in the screenshot to demonstrate as real life work... Unfortunately I can't provide this.
K, anyways, if you need more shots, just ask for them... seriously, I don't see any problem with creating some, when on openclipart they are a little out of date.
Take care!
David

I realize it's too late now, but it would have been nice if they would print a screenshot with a German interface - people might think Inkscape is only available in English.
Cheers, Colin

Here is an easy way: set your own Inkscape interface to German, open a couple of images from http://openclipart.org and do some screenshots.

Right. Well, next time.
