Re: [Inkscape-devel] Tango icons as default set
A comparison between dark GTK themes with both sets.

Notice that I didn't choose a black theme (they exist) but a dark gray one. The black details in the oficial set are still visible but the contrast lowered a lot, so they are difficult to see. In a pure black theme they will be completely invisible. The Tango text tool also needs some tweaking for dark themes.
About the colors: I'd prefer a single shade for the shapes tools, Shades of blues, for instance, with low saturation. But it seems the majority prefers the different colors. I agree with Bulia about lowering the saturation of them a bit.
Finally we're getting closer to an agreement :-)

Great comparison. If nothing else I think this points to a need to at least fix the current icons to handle dark backgrounds more gracefully.
One question -- with the pen/pencil/calligraphy tools now looking so similar to the original versions, why not just use the more distinctive originals with just the black lines modified to work on dark backgrounds? The images of the tools just pop out for me a lot more, and look more realistic in the current inkscape set. Especially the fountain pen.
And thanks for making some of the changes I suggested, like to the gradient tool. These icons don't have a chance without someone taking an active role, like you are, to incorporate as much community feedback as possible.

Bill, thanks for asking this. I feel exactly the same way. The 3 pen/pencil icons in the default set are very lifelike. The tango versions are just too small to easily differentiate.
