Hi there, I am experiencing some troubles at opening .svg files. I was working with Inkscape for a month, and I found it pretty nice. The problems start yesterday. I was working on a .svg project and saved it to my desktop. Later I attempt to open it by cliking on the icon. The File Manager crashed out and froze my desktop. I worked for a while trying to fix the problem. Finally I opted for format the HD and start from zero. Again, today I experienced the same problem. I searched on internet and I found other people with the same problem, but without answers. Do you can give me a clue about how to solve this? Thaks Lucas
this is Gnome related not a distribution specific problem - I reported this problem many times - in Ubuntu 10.4 this problem gone - because they use the last stable Gnome. The problem I think is not the distribution but the version of distribution, specifically Gnome version.
I encounter this bug with Ubuntu 8.10, 9.4 and 9.10. In 10.4 seems to be all OK. For sure this is not an Inkscape bug.

Hi Lucas,
Are you using Fedora ? I've encountered similar problems with Nautilus, but these were not related specificaly to .svg files. I had the same thing happening with .pdf and .odt files. You might want to give Gnome Commander a try as an alternative for the time being. And try disabling any file preview or icon rendering.
BTW, which Inkscape version are you using?

Diederik
