You can use rerouting ability to adjust the connector.

1. Connect two objects with connector tool. 2. Add one or two obejects between two other ones. 3. Select them 4. Switch to Connector tool again 5. Mark these objects as avoidable 6. Switch to Selection tool 7. Adjust position of these objects so that connector becomes a _| curved line

Or you can use Node tool to add nodes and drag them.
