Hi I keep getting daily emails about failed builds from "Launchpad Buildd System" [1, 2]. As Inkscape is now built on Gitlab infrastructure afaik is this something to look into or should launchpad builds be disabled somehow?

AFAIU, the launchpad build system is used to have the daily ppa providing the inkscape-trunk package, and I think the errors here come from a wrong version of libpng ?

Yes, the failure messages are from the PPA builds. A dependency change in xenial seems like a good guess.
