Hello I do not speak English, so they excuse me :) I made a proposal for the logo of the project of the reproducer xmms2, this is wiki: http://wiki.xmms2.xmms.se/index.php/Logo to much people it has liked. the archives are under the GPL:) I used inkscape 0,43 under gnu/linux gentoo, gnome 2.12 Download: http://jhuss.com/xmms2.tar.gz (png & svg)
it sent this thinking about that they like, and are an example but of which is possible to be done with inkscape. it animates to me to send this when I read the FAQ http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#Contributing_to_Inkscape
I adore inkscape. success with the project!

I see a lot of proposals there, some good, some bad, like in any contest :p
Definitely your logo fit the requirement of "logo should be futuristic, cool and stylish". I am not very sure about "has to work as a 32x32 icon" and "should have a low number of colours" - try to add to your proposal a monochrome version (just black and white, no gradients), this may improve your chances of winning.
And another suggestion: the light is not consistent, it comes from left on one speaker and from right on the another (yes, i understand why you did it).
Also, i would be tempted to not use the version number "2" at all, i feel the logo metaphor is enough.
/my two cents
PS: I just had a look at all submissions and my favorite is one from AJ Ashton, http://www.deviantart.com/view/19084428/, but what i know, i am a Rhythmbox user :D
