Say, what's happening with spam?
I remember seeing that one of the important folks needed admin priveleges to moderate the list. (Sorry, I've forgotten who). So, are things going forward? Will the important folk get what he needs some day?
Reassure me, eh?

It's annoying a lot of us!
It looks like this would have been a predictable problem, at the time the decision was made to host our own lists? What was the original plan to handle spam?
Oh! Actually, I think I read in the chatrooms where someone is moderating some of the lists, but not all. It's not clear how someone else can volunteer to moderate the rest of the lists. But if you want to volunteer, it sounds like someone in the chatroom can say how.
Actually, I don't know much about how mailing lists work. But it seems like it's more the domain than specific lists which should be monitored. And as I think even more about it, I wonder if there's such a thing as a security program which could do most of the work automatically?
If I weren't looking to reduce the time I'm spending with the project, I'd look into it myself. Unfortunately, I don't have time right now. But just to share the thought....

You aren't aware of it but for every one spam you see getting through, there are half a dozen that are in the moderation queue, which I or other moderators have been dealing with directly. The ones that are getting through now are due to spammers actually subscribing to the list (and even doing the confirmation). I have been banning them as they show up. There has definitely been a pickup in volume the past month or two.
Oh! Actually, I think I read in the chatrooms where someone is moderating some of the lists, but not all. It's not clear how someone else can volunteer to moderate the rest of the lists. But if you want to volunteer, it sounds like someone in the chatroom can say how.
Sure, since you're interested I've added you as a moderator. Anyone else that also wants to volunteer (and is an established project member) let me know, I've been having trouble locating people that want to do it and it's a chore that would be great if I could hand off.

That would be wonderful, Brynn. Unfortunately:

I've installed spamassassin on lists.inkscape.org, I hope it will work. It should not be too paranoid (I checked that it does sensible things), but if anyone is unable to get his emails through, please contact me (and attach the reject message to understand why)
Thanks Marc! Much appreciated. :)

It seems to work - I just got the info about a retained spam mail with detailed reasons given. It's not rejected, just caught in the filter.

Two emails bypassed the spamchecker by -apparently- using an unsecure form on the web interface to send emails (and the spamchecker thought that emails originating from 127.0.0.1 are trustworthy). This form is now disabled.
