When I use the difference or intersection operation on an open path (and a rectangle) the path suddenly gets new edges and is closed, see attachment (which also shows my intention). Is this intentional or should I file a bug?

Surely it would be better to preserve the open/closed status of a path, in boolops as well as in offsetting, so this can indeed be considered a bug.
Another bug is that straight line paths sometimes disappear after a boolop (I don't remember details but it's in our bug tracker).

I filed a bug in the patch tracker (1608065).

Indeed, I tihnk it happens when there is only one path segment. I couldn't find any related bug report though.
