Hi Nicholas,

We had two students working on filter code last year, and one filter was produced. Part of their work involved creating infrastructure which will be reusable for other filters.

Some of the remaining filters are probably going to be relatively simple to implement, so a few of these could potentially be done; others are going to be more involved, so just getting one of those achieved over the summer would be an admirable achievement.

Hope this gives some parameters to consider? I really liked the sound of your Imagemagick extension proposal; it could bring in a good range of functionality into Inkscape. However, this approach of creating new filters will be a much better fit with SVG, so makes a lot of sense.
