Aaron Spike told me that he nevery could overcome the months-old problem that makes autopackage fail. On my system, when I try to run 0.44 autopackage I get:
./inkscape: error while loading shared libraries: libXfixes.so.3: cannot open shared object file:No such file or directory
Is there anyone who can help with this? It really is a shame that we stopped providing autopackages because of this.
In any case, we must fix it before we can think about 0.45, because now that we don't have static rpms anymore, not providing an autopackage will make the release pretty much useless on the Linux side - for those who don't want to compile, the only way to try it will be to wait for their distros to upgrade, which usually takes months.

Could be that my old system was messed up. Could a few people try either the WONKY package for 0.44.1 on modevia or some of the snapshots I've made in the last week or two in the same location. Please report back your success or failure.
Thanks, Aaron Spike

The WONKY gives me the same error:
http://inkscape.modevia.com/ap/inkscape-0.44.1.x86.WONKY.package
~/.local/bin/.proxy.inkscape: error while loading shared libraries: libXfixes.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
But with the most recent one, the error is different:
http://inkscape.modevia.com/ap/inkscape200610250257.package
~/.local/bin/.proxy.inkscape: /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by ~/.local/bin/.proxy.inkscape) ~/.local/bin/.proxy.inkscape: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.4' not found (required by ~/.local/bin/.proxy.inkscape)
So, at least there's some progress! :) I hope this will give you an idea of how to debug it, let me know if you want me to test anything else.

Yeah, could you send me the .proxy.inkscape binary please? IIRC this is due to compiling against new libstdc++ headers or something like that, so we need to override them in apbuild. I forget the details so need to investigate again.
thanks -mike

I get that first one, when I run Inkscape 0.44, I have installed from autopackage, at the uni. It doesn't seem to cause any problems, though.
For the second one, it seems that the inkscape package is built against a newer version of c++ standard library, than the one bulia has.

Perhaps so, but isn't the very point of autopackage in automatically resolving this for me?

Once a working static RPM or Autopackage appears, I'll update the Zero Install feed to include it too.
