RE: [Inkscape-devel] screenshot-ready
One more thing I forgot: now the default window size of a new document is 640x480 (set in preferences-skeleton.h). Can anyone argue for better values? We need to set it there because:
- the default size without it is determined by the width of the menu and the height of the toolbar, and is way too small,
- we need to provide a template that users could edit in their preferences.xml to set the window size they prefer.

If you are willing to accept that some users will be stuck with crappy 640x480 displays you will need to make the default size a little smaller to make room for any panels they might have. I'd recommend 600x400 as the default size. I have not considered all the factors so there may be good reasons to choose another size.

That sounds about right. 600 by 400 would be a good default. Gotta make room for damn gnome panels.

Why don't you just get the size of the screen and take a percentage of it? like make it 2/3 screen width and 2/3 screen height.
Make it so that people on large displays don't end up having to resize the window every time?
