Jon,
I read through the XMP support package. I wonder if you are developing our XMP metadata support as a separate library, that others projects can use, like the SCRIBUS, GIMP, and sodipodi.
If you haven't read all the XMP hype from Adobe, it is pretty cool overall. http://www.adobe.com/products/xmp
I know that to develop support for it as a separate library is more work, but I really think that it is something that would benefit all these projects (but this is my hopeful thinking).

Yes, I read through most the rest of their papers (still need to finish the large usage paper).
First I think Sodipodi and Inkscape need support. Then we can push to get things into a generic library.
Off-hand I'm not sure that a universal solution will fall out. Much of this comes from Sodi/Ink being more intimate with their XML support. But we'll see what we can do.
I'm thinking libgnome might be a decent target location as long as it works well for all of our target platforms.
