I created a few more effects today. A path randomizer that randomly nudges path nodes and control points within a specified radius. A path segment straightener that straightens bezier path segments in two different ways. And a random tree generator. The tree generator uses a really simple little Turtle class that draws with SVG path data instead of pixels. Very basic but I think it should be enough to make an Inkscape effect out of just about any of those fun little fractal routines done in LOGO.
A tarball of effects is available to try out: http://www.ekips.org/comp/inkscape/extending.php

Wow. May I ask you to create some screenshots of these effects? This is definitely worth putting in the screenshot gallery. Also can you please add a writeup to the release notes:

btw, I followed instrunction and turn Effects menu on. Dropshadow add just a black copy of the object without any blurred edges. Is this a feature?
FC3 + updates here

Yes. We can't yet blur anything, this will only be possible with the support for SVG filters. (If we could, I would make _real_ a dropshadow tool long ago :)
If you really need it, however, have a look at share/extensions/inkscape-shadow.README

Mea maxima culpa. I should have paid more attention to this directory.
However, I'm pretty excited about the fact that people start coding effects for Inkscape. The future is bright :)

Agreed, hearing about this sudden burst of activity with extensions is pretty exciting. :-)
I'd like to propose that given the recent activity, that we default the Effects menu to on. It probably needs a bit more TLC before its ready for a release, but there's still plenty of time before 0.42.
Turning it on will entirely remove one inhibitor for people that may want to follow along in Aaron's footsteps, and may increase visibility of the Effects menu to get more people gung ho with creating extensions.
