and: are you sure, that the .desktop file might have anything to do with it... I assume no recompiling is needed, doesn't make sence, but where is the .desktop file after making install?

I'm not sure. I'm just asking you to try.

I don't know. But obviously the system uses it to figure out how to "activate" an Inkscape file. Can't you just try and see?
