Proposal for a spanish inkscape-user-es list
There's been a proposal to create a new list for Spanish speakers. Does anyone have any comment on this before I set it up?
Also, I'm thinking that for language-specific user lists we should require at least 3 people pledged to using the list before we set it up. Does that sound okay?

then I guess the best thing to do is for some of the project admins (Bryce?) to create a new list at sourceforge, named inkscape-user-es.

Ok...sounds good...is that number of people high enough...I guess try and see, right?

Then we have exactly 3 people who already pledged to use the list: Norberto, Guillermo and Silvana, let's do it. Probably after this is announced as a news item, more people will be interested.

Very well, all conditions are met, and it appears all comments voiced have been in support of the proposal. I've submitted the request to SF to have inkscape-user-es@ added. It should become available within the day.

Once the list is available, I'll put out the official announcement, however I would encourage the new members of this list to take the duty to promote it and encourage other Spanish speaking users to join. I think seeing news in the native language will be the most effective way of building the community.
Also, if speakers of other languages would also like to have lists set up, and can meet the same conditions that were met for the Spanish list, I will create them as well.

Hola!
A new mailing list is now available for the Spanish and Castillian speaking Inkscape user community. You may subscribe to it here:
http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/inkscape-user-es
The guidelines for this list are the same as for the main user list:
1. Have fun! 2. Grow a friendly community 3. Strive to help out fellow users
I will update the Inkscape site and add news about this. I'd love to encourage you to spread word about this list to any other sites that you think would be interested.
Bryce

It would be good to document existing fora for discussing Inkscape in different languages.
French has
http://linuxgraphic.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=6 (inkscape/sodipodi)[*1]
and
http://svgfr.org/forum/?action=vtopic&forum=4 (all SVG software)
A fallback solution for "languages not listed above" (wherever we give a list of other fora) is to google for `inkscape' and an indication of language (whether in Advanced Search or by adding a common word to the search criteria).
pjrm.
[*1] Most articles here are on inkscape, though I was interested to see among the sodipodi posts one (on printing) mentioning that Inkscape's printing works fine but that he doesn't like inkscape's user interface (without being specific except to note that it's just a matter of taste). I've just now replied requesting that he be more specific, since it's good to know what people do prefer about sodipodi, e.g. for when deciding what parts of the interface are useful to be configurable (/"skinnable"), which might be relevant when fixing the menus.xml problem.
