Is there a place in the source code you could recommend to me where I can look at and copy another one?

Lots of places now use prefs_get_int_attribute. E.g. tolerance value, scroll distances, etc. It's very simple in fact. The Wiki page was written for you :)

I suggested a pref value and other developers said save your time.

Different people may prefer different shadow styles, so a preference is appropriate IMHO.
