Hello All,
I have built and put up 0.47 tarballs on Sourceforge. I'll start by reminding everyone to not widely announce this yet, we'll wait for binaries to be available before doing so. Also, sorry to take so long on this, I was away from home for work but I'm back now :)
https://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/inkscape/0.47/
I'll tag everything and update that stuff tomorrow (as I'm tired now) but the tarball is correct.

It's been missed from the EXTRA_DIST section of Makefile.am then. Until the next release, just get it from the current SVN revision.

Do you need it? (this is a serious question) In theory, you shouldn't need it as the configure script should take care of all of the cross platform dependencies. I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case, and we should file a bug on autotools.

I am partly responsible for the wrong assumption by giving Wolf incorrect instructions how to proceed with building Inkscape from the tarball - please see my recently posted clarification... http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.inkscape.devel/32124
On OS X Inkscape configures without errors when relying on the build scripts included in 'packaging/macosx'. There is no need for 'autogen.sh' when invoking 'configure' with 'osx-build.sh c'.
The only error is the warning about missing svn files:
head: ../../.svn/entries: No such file or directory
~suv (still embarassed ;-)
Josh, Ted,
there is some version information mismatch. 1. in src/inkscape-version.cpp there is "0.47 r22583" where it think it should be plain "0.47". This leads to inconsistencies on win32 when doing "btool clean" - the file is replaced having pure "0.47" 2. The content of src/inkview.rc and src/inscape.rc has 0.46 all over. Chris will upload a new -3 version packages correcting this defect by putting 0.47.
Adib.

Well this is the way it "should" be. After this I think we should change it so that proper releases don't get a revision number; I'm not sure how revision numbers will work with Bazaar anyway, we may have to drop this convention or really start using 1bd6a70g-type revision numbers which aren't all that intelligible for what came when (the main disadvantage of DVCS I'd say).
This leads to inconsistencies on win32 when doing "btool clean" - the file is replaced having pure "0.47"
Now this bit is bad. Apparently this is what uwesch was thinking was wrong with my build - it was actually something wrong with his build, he had cleaned it which apparently should not be done (I say wrong... that's putting it much to strong. I doubt that anything changes other than the contents of inkscape-version.cpp and thus the about box).

And yes, inkview.exe is in this lot. All 14MB of it (it only grows each package by 1MB plus or minus a bit due to solid compression). Inkscape Portable will not currently have inkview.exe as there is be no way of using it portably. I also added the version information to inkscape.nsi (the installer) as I suddenly realised it wasn't there (I didn't notice it earlier). I also updated the copyright year from 2007 to 2009. Who should I email my changed files to for inclusion in the 0.47 branch (Adib says I should)?

Inkscape Portable is not currently digitally signed by PortableApps.com, that was the original plan but I'm not sure if it will be still... better to wait a day or so before uploading it to SourceForge, I'll send a link to John T. Haller of PortableApps.com to see if he wants to sign it.
A note for next time, Ted: packaging/win32/portable/App/AppInfo/appinfo.ini:[Version]->PackageVersion is meant to be an X.X.X.X version number, so I changed it back from 0.47 to 0.47.0.0. This is the only change I made to the downloaded source bundle, which is good :-). (Since yesterday with the release of the PortableApps.com Format and Installer 1.0, [Format]->Version is also 1.0, but that's incrememted automatically by the PortableApps.com Installer. It'd be a good idea for me to update it when we're bizarre though.) I'm planning on making a proper build script for the packaging step of Inkscape and Inkscape Portable before 0.48 which will take care of all this so you won't need to do it.

Chris, Ted,
uwesch noted that Chris made the application from the svn not from the tarball. (The version string is affected and has the revision number). Also inkview was missing (Additional step "btool dist-inkview" is needed to create inkview)
So I replaced all files that I put on sf.net. The new files have "inkscape-0.47-2-win32" in their names. pls make sure that the download page links to that files.
Chris, could you please make sure that the signed portable version is made from the the tarball (maybe you use the 7z archive from sf.net).
Thanks, Adib. ----

I definitely did *not* create it from svn. It came from the zip download (as you can surely see by the fact that it's Inkscape-0.47-1.exe, I don't go renaming things ever). As for inkview, I follow the build instructionshttp://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Win32Portwhich do not include inkview. If we want it, we should add dist-inkview to what dist (the default) does. Personally I don't see much point in it except for advanced users anyway, it's never linked to from the start menu or anywhere.
Could you please tell me then what it is that uwesch has specifically against the build?
So I replaced all files that I put on sf.net. The new files have "inkscape-0.47-2-win32" in their names.
Incidentally you haven't compressed the 7z archives with Ultra, you really should to keep them as small as possible. 0.47-2 is also going to be unnerving for users when 0.47 is released... I already strongly dislike the -1 being there at all for the first release.
I am not aware of any issues at all with my builds; they follow the exact documented procedure and with the right files.

I installed your exe file and in the about screen i had a build number. So i downloaded the tarball zip and builded a new one. The new one is without any number. That's the reason we thought you builded from svn. Sorry about that.
My thoughts about inkview:
Inkview is not only a program for advanced users. i know, inkscape is not in the building process. So i startet a discussion on the devel list, without any answers at this point. Yesterday i was talking to Adib becaosue of inkview. So he said... create this application and put it into the build. So it sounds for me like a normal process. But anyway. I use inkscape to show svg's and i think many ohter users too. So i can see no reason for cutting them out of the build. That are my 2 Cents.
So I replaced all files that I put on sf.net <http://sf.net>. The new files have "inkscape-0.47-2-win32" in their names.

No doubt about that, Chris.

Sincerely,

Actually there might be an issue with uninstalling Inkscape. I have noticed this yesterday when uninstalling "pre4". So I tried to uninstall the official Inkscape, installed from "Inkscape-0.47-1.exe" from the SF page. The problem is that after uninstallation almost all the files stay in the folder where Inkscape was installed. It is true that I manually changed some files after the installation:
- I added some markers to the file "./share/markers/markers.svg" and - I changed the icon theme to Tango: I renamed "./share/icons/icons.svg" -> "./share/icons/icons_original.svg" and "./share/icons/tango_icons.svg" -> "./share/icons/icons.svg"
During the uninstallation I got few notifications that these files were changed and if I want to delete them anyway and I chose yes. The result was that, from what I have noticed, all the files except:
- uninstall.exe - uninstall.log - ./share/markers/markers.svg (the folder ./share/markers was deleted as well) - ./share/icons/icons.svg - ./share/icons/tango_icons.svg (the folder ./share/icons and all the rest of the files stayed there)
stayed in the installation folder, i.e. in "c:\Program Files\Inkscape".
Hope this helps in any way.
Best regards, Rok

I haven't had enough time to work out why this is happening at all (I went through the source and the issue just ran too deep in the uninstall script used to track it down in a couple of hours), but it seems to me to be just a general flaw in the way we've used the uninstall script (it was frightfully abused really, it's been hacked about into much more than it was meant to be, and there are just some fundamental flaws with how it does it). Before 0.48 I'm planning on completely redoing the installer architecture in a way which will simplify it (from my developer's perspective) and make it actually work properly.

Ah, okay. I didn't realize that. Can you put that information on the building dists wiki page?
