Hi,
According to ChangeLog last July there was support for Windows clipboard introduced. However on Linux copy/paste of paths still doesn't work between instances and Inkscape doesn't seem to announce it sent something to clipboard for other apps as well. GIMP does support pasting SVG paths from clipboard, but ironically the only application that is supposed to do that in fact doesn't do it. Amusing, eh? :) So, what can we do?
Alexandre

On the other hand, for the future could we think at copying filtered objects into the clipboard with an alpha channel ?
Progressive transparent objects from Gimp paste very well into Inkscape ; I tested it right now !

Can you paste a path from Inkscape to GIMP?
Yes, gimp 2.2.11, inserts a path that I copied in Inkscape, the console shows the content negotiation:
offered type: TIMESTAMP offered type: TARGETS offered type: MULTIPLE offered type: image/x-inkscape-svg offered type: image/svg+xml offered type: image/x-inkscape-svg-compressed offered type: image/svg+xml-compressed offered type: text/plain offered type: application/pdf offered type: image/png offered type: image/x-postscript offered type: image/x-e-postscript offered type: text/x-povray-script offered type: text/x-javafx-script offered type: text/x-povray-script offered type: text/x-tex offered type: image/dxf offered type: application/x-xcf offered type: application/x-zip offered type: image/x-svgz offered type: text/xml+xaml offered type: image/hpgl offered type: application/x-xsk1 offered type: application/x-wmf offered type: image/png
