Before I forget....
It seems Xara was at one point trying to compete with Flash and released their Flare file format which later came to be known as Xar. The anti SVG and SWF proganda is almost funny and it is about as interesting as reading a file format specification can be.
The Xar specifications are available on the Xara website http://www.xara.com/support/docs/webformat/spec/
There code seems to be available for processing the file format and the terms of use do not seem draconian so it might be possible to make use of it and maybe allow Inkscape to import Xara files.
Given how interested bulia is in Xara perhaps he is already aware of this but I hadn't heard any mention of it before (on the list/wiki/bugtracker) and thought it might be of interest.
Sincerely

I may be wrong but I think this format is not the same as the native format of Xara X, though it's probably similar. It's a separate "optimized" format that you can export to from Xara. So supporting it will not give us the ability to import Xara files, unless they're first exported into this format.
Coincidentally, I've been discussing this with a couple people offlist. There's a couple things to get organized, but hopefully I can announce something about it soonish.

Just 2c. I would be very excited to see file interchange between Xara and Inkscape. Erik
