Hi all!
Diederik, thanks a lot for enabling the axonometric grid in SVN! It's great to play around with it. Just one small thing I noticed: It doesn't honour the "snapping enabled" option in the Document Properties dialog.
As I was giving it a try I was for a short moment a bit confused that the newly created grid (which had the checkbock "visible" ticked) didn't appear on the canvas - until I remembered to press '#' to make all grids visible. I still believe that users unfamiliar with the way it works may be quite confused by this behaviour. Any suggestions how to make the difference between enabling grids globally and individually more obvious to users? Would it be sufficient to add a caveat to the the tooltip in Document Properties?
Max
P.S.: Just noticed one other thing. When more than one grid is present then pressing '#' always switches to the tab of the first grid in Document Properties. This is a bit annoying when you actually want to work with the second grid, for example. Is there an easy way to change this?
Because I am pinned down in XP (I can't switch totally to Ubuntu because PSD 16 bits/channel, CMYK, and CDR format ) I wanna try 3D box tool in Windows versions if is possible.
What I need to do to enable this tool - to complile some dev. src version for XP ? if yes - which version source ?.
Also I can try 3D box in Ubuntu but I dont know which version to compile.
Thanks in advance.

I know about this issue, which annoys me aswell :) I will make it such that pressing the new grid button also globally enables grid showing.
I still believe that users unfamiliar with the way it works may be quite confused by this behaviour. Any suggestions how to make the difference between enabling grids globally and individually more obvious to users? Would it be sufficient to add a caveat to the the tooltip in Document Properties?
Maybe it is best to have a single checkbox for each grid: "Enable". And have global grid visibility and global grid snapping option ?
P.S.: Just noticed one other thing. When more than one grid is present then pressing '#' always switches to the tab of the first grid in Document Properties. This is a bit annoying when you actually want to work with the second grid, for example. Is there an easy way to change this?
Also when creating a 2nd grid, the tab switches back to the 1st grid.
And I just noticed that grid emphasized lines rendering is bugged for grids other than 30-30 angles.
So still some bugs to fix, sorry. Thanks for reporting them!
Greetings, Johan

Regarding the dialog... Diederik, please have a look at the attached file ;-)

That vertical space is on purpose :-). I wanted to separate the first two options from the others, as the others are in related groups. I think it looks quite clean, and it doesn't increase the size of the dialog as it is just as big as some of the other tabs. But if it violates any GUI design rule than I won't mind replacing the vertical space by a horizontal bar or such.
Both spaces of that kind and horizontal bar violate GUI design rules :)

I think what you need here is two frames titled, "What snaps" and "What to snap to" or something to that effect.

Done and committed. See the picture below and tell me if you like it.
I hate to tell that you, guys, but we don't use frames for a really long time, we use visual idents:

No problem, but what option do we have left to make the first two checkboxes stand out from the dozen below, expect for some vertical wasted space inbetween?
We realy need that IMHO!

I knew you would say that :) But here, frames are meaningful. They help separate separate classes of options and make it obvious what is what. Headings would be OK too, but frames are better in this case IMHO.

Next thing you'll be telling us that the HI guidelines are totally subjective, and then where will we be?! :)

Done and committed. See the picture below and tell me if you like it. If you compare it to the other tabs, you'll notice that this one is now the only one without bold captions. The captions of the frame cannot be made bold by using (is there another way?). Should I insert frames in all other tabs to get a similar look?
IMHO the two sections were already clearly separate as all the captions of the second section start with "Snap to [...]".
Adding other visual marker to separate them will make the dialog feel more cluttered.
Can we change "Snap at any distance" to "Snap at a specified distance" and make that activate the slider? I think that'd be more clear, as it visually looks like the check box should activate the slider instead of deactivating it.
Also, the whole thing need some space around it instead of butting up to the edge of the notebook page.

Indeed. We used to have "Snapping of " vs. "Snapping to", which is very similar. I've now used "What snaps" vs. "Snap to", which is already much better. I hope it won't get lost in translation though.
Also the much requested "global snapping toggle" has been added, but suggestions for a better name are welcome of course.
