Hi, Is there some trick to make Inkscape 0.44pre4 work on SuSE 10.1? I compiled it from sources and now I can't get it working (SIGSEGVs). I looked from sources and gdb it and find out it's something to do with UTF-8. Some one got clue how to make this work??

First, it would be nice if you could please open a bug report and include the gdb output with it. Also, what window manager do you use?
Then, have you had a look at the 0.44 Release Notes? http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?Release_Notes#Known_problems
Especially the Composite, defective themes and maybe libgc-6.7 sections would apply here.
For the record, the shipped inkscape-0.43 on SuSE 10.1 + wmaker works fine here, but I'll try to reproduce your problem, you just have to help me a bit.

Oh.. I filed the bug report. This machine I use KDE but I should test it on GNOME (on work). Gdb doesn't give anything useful:P It crashes on thread or something and just shows libc calls...

Hmm... SuSE 10.1 seems to shipe GC 6.6. I Have compile newest one and check the DAN again. Everything went better after removing gtk-qt (this should be make to work in future. Because you can't ask to remove it from SuSE because it's installed default)

Yep, Works just fine but I have used Inkscape CVS on 10.0. So now I'm on sinky sand because 0.43 crashes on my SVG.. Like to use my SVG's.

Many thanks. I see you are already at the heart of the problem. Very interesting. Ted, can you have a look, please?

This would be interesting, as well.

Valgrind is an alternative that usually does better with such things.

That's why we are very interested in reproducing and helping you with this. This is an issue that needed fixing for a long time but was not easy to pin down.
