Bryce, there is one thing that we need to negotiate:
as we have several exporters for one and the same format, we need to decide if we have one exporter only or both in the release.
We have this native PS and Cairo PS. Also there might be extensions using the uniconverter to convert from/to ai- or wmf-format.
Last I also want to point
Uups there was something missing:
Last, I want to point to this issue: http://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/177783 This is a windows only problem there might be a solution that we use a self patched version of cairo.

We should ship the preferred one by default (so Cairo PS in this case), but provide the alternate ones as options that can be installed. The intent would be for these alternate/depricated/legacy/restricted converters to be distribted as separate packages, and if the user chooses to install one of them, then its package should set it as the default (on the principle that if the user chose to install it, they probably intend to use it).
In addition, if there are extensions that have difficult prerequisites (e.g. I recall we once had some export formats that depended on skencil), we should also plan on these being external packages. The distro packagers can then set up packages with the appropriate depends to pull in the dependencies accordingly, if/when they're desired. The distros can then also be left with the decision about whether to include these with the stock Inkscape install, or leave it as something the user can choose to install separately.

Okay thanks for the head's up on it. I see it's already been milestoned for 0.46. Is there a bug ID # in the Cairo bug tracker for this issue? If so, please attach it to the bug report (click "Also affects: +Project", then type "libcairo" and continue, then paste in the URL of the bug report.
