Are we on the same wavelength? Inkscape has been auto adding extension svg for ages. For example in build 29 March.

It certainly did not do that on Linux until today. So this should have been a Windows-only artefact :) Anyway, the newly added functionality (controlled by checkbox) is the preferred way to do it because it can be disabled, and that preference is saved. If a Windows build does not have the checkbox or does not obey it, please file a bug and/or contact Ted Gould who authored this.
