Working on the Text tool part of the user manual, i've just wondered why this tool has to be set in a separate though it doesn't have any options. Would it not be more useable to put this options in the Option Bar ?

Simply because we haven't had time yet to do this. It's planned.

Tools with no options is a fairly visible gap that users are guaranteed to notice in any release.
Is there a bug report or RFE tracking this issue?
This is one of those things I didn't get around to reporting (spent hours reviewing the toolbars one weekend but never got around to writing up my comments).
In case it might be useful for reference purposes I created a screenshot of the Text Tool Options from Adobe Photoshop http://matrix.netsoc.tcd.ie/~horkana/dev/gnome/inkscape/screenshots/referenc...
That directory also contains other photoshop screenshots http://matrix.netsoc.tcd.ie/~horkana/dev/gnome/inkscape/screenshots/referenc... in particular the screenshots are of the tool option palette and of the gradient manager.

Guess what? I know that.
Is there a bug report or RFE tracking this issue?
Lots.

Sorry I didn't phrase that better, but basically I was trying to point out that it was something that although not a bug would be relatively important to fix before another release (and I'm sure you know that too but I felt I needed to make myself clear).

I've been looking but not found it yet, already getting bogged down in other reports. The search interface to Sourceforge is not as good as bugzilla and I was hoping that if you were already aware of a specific bug report you might be willing to share a link and save me a lot of time. simply responding to all the bug reports could turn into a full time job if you let it.
there is this one tracking text _import_ options (changed the report to summary to make that clearer) https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1045238&gr...
I guess this report might cover it but I'm not certain from the description: "TEXT: Text-tool properties toolbar" https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=860118&gro... I suppose when the reporter says Tool properties he is referring to the Tool Options Palette/Toolbar.

Sorry I just meant to say that it's an awful amount of work to put even the basic text options onto the panel. Right now all text options are available via either the dialog or shortcuts, so there is no dire need to rush this for this release. One of the next releases for sure.

SF is down at the moment so I can't help you. I do remember several RFEs on this, however the idea of the text panel that I have in mind is much more detailed than any of the RFEs. I just need time to implement it.
