I cannot see a way for Inkscape to handle the viewbox element in order to scale coordinates, ie. setting lat long coordinates. Am I missing something or is there a good workaround ? I'm trying to develop a way to import/export kml files, keeping the lat long settings within Inkscape.

Unfortunately the viewBox support is very poor in Inkscape. There are many bugs. Inkscape itself never uses viewBox in the files it creates. If anyone can contribute any fixes in this area it will be much appreciated.
