Re: [Inkscape-devel] Input Device UI
My wife has a Genius Pensketch tablet that uses the wizardpen driver in gnu/linux. The driver is provided by the community and have some limitations, like being unable to work with a mouse at the same time (if you use the tablet you lose the ability to use mouse on the work area until you change the stylius from screen to de-activated). If that selector is removed it will render inkscape unusable for people with those tablets who want to use the mouse as well. And there are lots of cheap tablets that only run in linux with that driver.
Wacom tablets (and those that use the wacom drivers) don't have that problem and you can safely leave everything set to screen.
Hey Guillermo,
Are you using the Ubuntu PPA wizardpen driver for 10.04? Or are you using the older driver from upstream?
There is a kernel driver being developed for wizardpen which would plug it directly into the wacom xorg stack. So hold onto your hats and join the wizardpen testers (if not already there)

Hi Martin Thanks for the tip. She's using the driver from your PPA, which i see is a couple of months older than the one in testers PPA. Is it the same but new version or is it a completely new driver? I'll give it a go and let you know how it went. Thank you very much!

Which testers PPA?
The original wizardpen driver was abandoned by upstream, so we tool it in house and fixed it up for lucid. It's a fork.
