I believe it's due to the fact that shift+tab ( to get into the to: field and eliminate people's names, substituting them for inkscape-devel ) constantly is a character in unix ( or something like that )

Either that or shift+delete creates characters now.

Try this: ( Shift+Tab five times )  Or this: ( Shift+Delete five times )
