Failing to load .svg files on OSX

Hello all,
I downloaded Inkscape for Mac OS X (I use 10.3.9) yesterday, and when I tried to open my saved inkscape files today, they didn't open. I joined the inkscape IRC chat and first ishmal and the JonCruz kindly helped identify the problem as a bug. JonCruz told me to report the bug, which I did (hopefully I did it right). He also said that if I asked politely, someone on the mailing list might be able to help me get a different build.
If there's anyone who can help me getting a different build for 10.3.9, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Jasper (woodman663)

I am not aware of any incompatibilities between current version of Inkscape and 10.3. They should work the same on 10.3 and 10.4. I what you are looking for is an older version of Inkscape you should be able to find one here: http://inkscape.modevia.com/macosx-snap/?M=D (old developement builds) or here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php? group_id=93438&package_id=99112 (stable builds, and pick 0.43 which was still compiled on 10.3 I think)
If on the other hand you wanted a newer build of Inkscape, I am the one to blame: there have not been development builds of Inkscape for a while because the builds I produce are broken. I haven't had the time to track down the problem so I am stuck for the moment. Maybe somebody else could upload some recent builds on modevia for a while?

Thanks. I think the problem he hit was definitely some lib mismatch. Gotta try to get some new mac build going, I guess.
If any other mac guys out there could try to make a build, that would be really helpful. I'm trying to wind up the toolbar fixing before we start heading to release, so am a bit bogged down with that.
Once that is all settled I can start trying to get my box configured to do a releasable build... however it would be *really* helpful is someone other than Jean-Olivier could lend a hand.

I have an Intel 10.4.8 mac, which build the 0.44.1 version, how can I help? Just build what's in svn?

Yup. Also it might be useful to run 'make check' as well after it's done building.

I just built svn on/for the above machine, and it builds fine, but there are a couple of failures in the make check stage:
http://craigmarshall.org/makecheck.txt
When I run Inkscape.app, the thing dies with "Inkscape has encountered an error and will now close" or something like that. I have to kill -9 it...
Any ideas? Or do I need to break out the gdb manual?

This is exactly the error I have been having for more than 2 months now... I also have the same errors during make check. I thought it was something specific to my system besause others were building and using Inkscape on OS X with no issues. A build from a fresh checkout as well as an update of my fink installation a while ago did not help. This problem was already present in a svn build from 2006-07-17 but 2006-06-29 was OK. I quick look through svn log between these dates do not help much (svn log -r '{2006-06-29}':'{2006-07-17}' | grep locale does not return anything for example). But I am no svn expert and I do not know if there is a way to display which files are concerned by each revision. In addition: jiho@...993...:inkscape$ grep -R "S_create_c_locale" * Binary file packaging/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources/lib/libglibmm-2.4.1.dylib matches So only one binary file apparently from gtkmm lib matches. Therefore I am a bit lost here. My guess would be toward a library problem coming from Fink but I do not remember changing or updating anything between the two dates mentionned above. Does anyone have a better idea? some advice on where to search?
And BTW, on my system locale output is: jiho@...993...:jiho$ locale LANG= LC_COLLATE="C" LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="C" LC_MONETARY="C" LC_NUMERIC="C" LC_TIME="C" LC_ALL="C/en_US.UTF-8/C/C/C/C" But I think I already had the error before I changed LC_CTYPE to "en_US.UTF-8".
Thanks in advance

Yes - I did a fresh checkout tonight, and no difference.
What's strange about this is that I successfully built the 0.44.1 release on the 15th September. Long after 30th June... And I don't think I've changed anything since. Did you try building that source release? There may be something different about it to svn. I haven't time to check, or build that release again, to see if my setup has changed (very unlikely, I haven't done anything with it since then).
I don't remember updating fink either..
I would have thought so, all my LC variables say "C". Don't think that's the problem though, I've never changed all this.
My machine is just rebuilding the svn code with debugging symbols and no optimising, I'm going to see id gdb gives me a more useful message. Unfortunately, I have work tomorrow and should be in bed by now, but I'll have a better look tomorrow night if I have energy.
