For me,this 'd be essential,given the BAD memory management in kpdf, xpdf, gpdf,I'm looking for something that lets me put simple figures, rectangles, arrows and text ,from latex to generate decent documents, and I want to use Inkscape for that.
Wow, this'll be a handy extension - how are things going with it?

internal extensions their init function must be called in init.cpp -- could you not have put that call in? Are you saying that the code
isn't
getting linked in?
