- My patch for the freeze bug is not committed still. Release wardens, please take note.
- Consequently, pre3 is not out yet.
- Release notes for Ishmal and Joncruz still not filled out.
- No one bothered to respond to my crash report on Win98. Does this mean we'll have to release with that bug?
- No one submitted any screenshots for the site.
- Reck Beton reports (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=604306&aid=1224751...) that we're having a number of regressions with regard to the W3C test suite, compared to earlier 0.42 builds. In particular, he says that styling tests no longer work. Peter, please look into this because that is an important feature touted in the release notes.
- Mental has filed another fix-before-release bug: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1240029&gr... If JonCruz will not take care of that, patches are welcome.

Huh? I clearly see 8 entries in 0.42 section, 3-4 out of them in the top seem to be pretty new.
P.S. I have uploaded the sample AI file for you. I don't understand why it wasn't there when i reported the bug. I might haven't had enabled _that_ checkbox.

Oops, of cource except the extensions screenshot (sorry Aaron :)
P.S. I have uploaded the sample AI file for you.
By the way we have two bugs implying that AI import does not work on Windows and in OSX due to some Perl errors in ill2svg.pl. I think this is another issue that must be resolved somehow before the release, because AI import is important for many users. I will now test it on Linux, anyone else's comments and reports are welcome:

I don't think these are release-stoppers. The first is a lack of the required Perl modules, the 2nd looks like AI format issues. AFAIK, ill2svg.pl hasn't changed since I last worked on it, cleaning up various issues.

What modules exactly do you think are missing? Does the script require any Perl modules other than those in ImageMagick-Perl?
the 2nd looks like AI format issues.
Well, I have AIs from various Ilustrator versions -- from 9 to 12 (CS2).Which of them do you want me to submit to find out, whether it really are format issues? ;-)

Actually the first is another problem of not seeing the ImageMagick perl library even if it is installed (see my comment in the bug report). This is another case where we may want to bundle the required library for the benefit of non-fink users on OSX.
My vote would be with Bulia's comment (on the second bug report) to attempt to remove this ImageMagick dependency if at all possible.

As Bulia suggests, one of the Wardens should manage this list. I'll take over for that role.

Status: no one but bulia has looked at this. It would be nice to get this fixed before release.

Win98 crash
Status: no one but bulia has looked at this. It would be nice to get this fixed before release.
I would like to hear from Ishmal on this. He may be able to come up with a simple fix, even if he can't reproduce it, as the error message is quite suggestive.
Bug 1210100 (Selecting corrupted embedded images crashes)
Status: need fix confirmation
Currently it just gives a warning, not crashes for me. Is this what we should expect on this file? If so let's close it.
Bug 1230742 (etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc broken in windows build)
Status: need confirmation from others that this is a problem.
NOT fixed in pre2 windows build, just tested. This was fixed in a daily build but the official pre2 still has all lines quoted in that file.

What do you think about just disabling it?

It's supposed to show which extensions are available, plus maybe some other useful info. But for me it shows everything as "unloaded".

If I understand correctly, that would be because extensions are dynamically loaded ie always unloaded unless they are being used.

OK: Kees, please just comment out this line in interface.cpp:
Inkscape::Verb::get(SP_VERB_HELP_ABOUT_EXTENSIONS),
and we'll wait for JonCruz to make something useful from it after 0.42.

Sorry, we've had no power at the office for two days... it literally just came back up.
I have been trying to contact him for a week, he is MIA. I think that as of this point we really just need to award it to the second place entry if we can get a hold of them.
Please let me know if this is okay with you guys (Anarres has been away from da for over a week and hasn't responded to emails or IMs either).

Seconded. His entry is SO much beyond the second choice.
FWIW, even if he misses the .42 deadline, I think we should let him know that we'd be interested in it for .43 if he gives us the SVG in time.

I definitely agree that we should wait, I only suggested it because it's difficult to get a sense of the urgency with you guys sometimes. The problem is that one person makes it sound like we're releasing tomorrow and someone else is saying it's a week at the soonest. Anyway, I really do feel the need to get in contact with the runner-up to make sure they're reachable, just in case we can't easily get a hold of him (like the winner).

I definitely think that we will just make it a requirement for the next go-round. I don't know if it will work too well to have it submitted in SVG, but as long as the SVG is made available when they submit PNG or something, that's all that matters.

I strongly disagree and think we need to get this release out. We shouldn't wait indeterminately on a screenshot when we have another ready. Also, we don't know what happened to this author and longer time could go by without a response.
We can fix this process for the next release.
Basically, it would be good to collect the good entries' svg files anyway. And, since the runner-up already entered the competition then it should be okay to use his/her submission, right?

As I wrote, we are waiting not only on the About screen. We need to make pre3 and give it at least a few days' testing. I wanted pre3 to have the new About, but there are other reasons for it as well.

Yes, I read what you wrote previously and am making a distinction. Let us not wait on the about screen, but only the other show stoppers the release wardens have been posting about. We should defer to the release wardens judgment on this, however, sooner is better than later IMO...and there is no reason to wait if we have the runner-up's image.

Just for the record, I think that I didn't communicate what I was agreeing with correctly. I was agreeing with waiting to see if the about author surfaces... until this release is otherwise ready to go (before we stick the runner-up in there). It's time to get this out, which is why I jumped on having _something_ new for an about screen. I just want to see what the SoC guys have up their sleeves already (I can hardly contain myself wrt the Inkboard reintegration).

Status: need confirmation from others that this is a problem.
NOT fixed in pre2 windows build, just tested. This was fixed in a daily build but the official pre2 still has all lines quoted in that file.
I found this is a cross-compiling problem. The make and echo syntax used to create those gtkrc file works as expected only under Linux. Windows make includes all those " and \ in the gtkrc file with the result, that the content is somehow commented if you compile on a win32 machine. So I did for the pre2. And it was broken in the pre2 but ok in the nightlies.
I put a patch for the mingw makefiles that addresses those issue and also add a new target called dist-strip to make sure the files in the installer are stripped. As I forgot to strip the pre2. Am I right to remove also the gdb from the installer files as the program is stripped from all debug info ?
Actually I could not double check the proper functionality under Linux. I tested Win32 only.
And there is the patch: 1241293 mingw makefile, cross compilation problems https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1241293&gr...
