the patch for bug #487038 "0.47 build error with poppler 0.12.2 on Linux" https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/487038 is part of revision 8906. I don't know if this was intentional. But now Inkscape doesn't seem to build with poppler < 0.12.2
reverted to 8905 Inkscape builds on OS X 10.5.8 (8906 failed with the same error).

Since quite a few Inkscape developers work for Canonical, it would be great to support if not latest LTS, then at least latest released version of the distribution :)

The nightly builds that I have setup build on 8.04 through 9.10, though they were broken with the revision skew (lower number caused the PPA to reject it). I added 10.04 and kicked things off. There should be builds in a bit:
https://launchpad.net/~inkscape-nightly/+archive/ppa
Any build failures on old releases should show up there pretty quick.

Sounds like perhaps we should revert at least that part of the commit for now.
We need to make it compile for each (0.12.2 and 0.12.1). I believe that if we can pinpoint some #define or public function difference then we can put that into autoconf.

No, that was not intentional. I temporarily fixed my own build because (I have the more recent poppler lib), and accidentally commited this fix. I will revert this part of the commit, sorry for the trouble.
