Hi,
Just FYI, poppler 0.19.x supports color management via LittleCMS v2. Didn't we want color managed PDF importing at some point? :)

somehow we have to decide how to preceed with pdf import.
As far as my last knowledge we use private poppler headers, which is not good bcs. it may break the codebase when poppler changes structures. I introducced a pdf via poppler-cairo import but the quality was not so good. Especialy the text import.
I wanted to participate in poppler svg output but I found no time to do it.
Does cairo support cms?

No it does not. Which is why we don't have color managed PDF output.

BTW color managed and CMYK-based PDF output could be implemented using UniConvertor. Moreover we have added special patch to UniConvertor 1.1.5 on InkscapeBrazil guys request. If this issue is interested for Inkscape team we could develop improved prepress ready PDF output. At least it's a good subj for discussion on LGM2012.

I've sent quite a few Scribus projects to press and haven't had any issues with PDF export and color management. (I think) Scribus uses PoDoFo for PDF export: http://podofo.sourceforge.net/about.html
It seems capable of color managed import as well.
As a long-time lurker, just thought I'd throw that out there ;)

It doesn't.

A swing and a miss then ;) Do you know how they are pulling off managed export?

Scribus uses PoDoFo for other purposes. Scribus has it's own export code. Sadly, it was never designed, therefore released, as a out-of-tree library.
Don't take me for an expert, though.
