Hey all,
We're in the final stretch! Given that I am the only Release Warden, I will have to modify a release rule if no one objects... this is the Release Wardens only can commit rule. I would like to extend the ability to commit to buliabyak and JonCruz during this period to ensure that I won't slow things down too much.
Translators, please work toward finalizing your translations for this release.
Packagers, we should hopefully have a pre2 tarball soon (yes, that means you're getting an email Ted)... when we do, please package things at your first opportunity so we can ensure that any potential packaging issues are ironed out.
Would anyone like to volunteer for fixing make distcheck? Last I was aware of, it was failing.
I'd like to see us branch on Sept 1, and hopefully release about 2 weeks after that.
For now, on with the freeze! The list below was taken from the pre-freeze discussion. Thanks to everyone for all your work getting us this far, just a little bit further to the finish line!
===Crashers===
307195 “crash with two inkscape instances when changing layer” 346721 “Segfault after opening scripts dialog” 406470 “Crash when trying to save as PDF” 399604 “'malloc: *** error' after changing numeric precision to 1 or 2” 397075 “Inkscape crashes adding image effect in filter editor.”
===Other===
382313 “Image Filter broken for external images.” * Given all of the filter magic this release, seems important.
389130 “Inkscape PNG transparency display appearance does not match export and other standard applications” * This seems like a blocker when our one bitmap export has issues.
388257 “Inkscape 0.47Pre: PDF/PS Export 'Text to Paths' gives inconsistent results”
190557 “resize of object or group by entering a numeric size results in a different size.” * We have many precision issues that have persisted for a long time, I don't know that this is the time to fix this. Perhaps a goal for an upcoming release would be to make our precision... precise. :) I nominate to drop as a blocker.
===Platform Specific===
OS X: 390024 “raster image extensions fail on osx: missing ImageMagick config files/resources”
373514 “No Script Console on Mac OS X” * Maybe just a release note rather than make a blocker.
===Nominated for removal for release===
179452 “export to openclipart.org in dev version” * Unless someone can step up, it's probably best to disable for 0.47.
319107 “Jabber whiteboard doesn't work” * Remove configure flag until someone actively works on again.
397872 “Auto-palette doesn't refresh until another color is added” * This is nominated to be ifdef'd out for the release if JonCruz does not have time to fix.

Cheers, Josh

Just in case, would you mind reminding how translators should be sending their updates during the freeze?
And do we have any kind of , errrm, schedule? :)

Actually, I seem to recall that we have had Translation wardens in the past. Anyone care to take this on? Arpad? Nico? Alexandre? ;)
I mentioned a loose schedule... I say we aim to branch on the Sept 1, and hopefully are able to release a couple weeks after that. Hopefully it should be about a month out if the blockers can be dealt with soon enough.

Not me, I'm afraid. My access to Internet isn't reliable timewise these days.

Neat.
It would be lovely to have Win32 and Mac builds for testing, say, by Monday.

Unfortunately, I'm on holiday from next Monday to Aug 31, with very limited Internet access the first week and no access the second one. I can help committing translation update while I'm connected though. What about allowing translators (with commit access) to commit as usual, providing that we check these updates regularly? It's probably not too hazardous...
Is it also an inkscape.pot freeze, or do we allow typo corrections?

I forgot to mention that the tutorials are still broken. Since it doesn't prevent Inkscape from working, we can't say it's a blocker, but it would give our potential users the wrong impression.

Hi,

I will.
BTW, could someone take a look at the "untranslatable strings" issue reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408093 ?

I think it would be useful to give some time for any typos to be located after the feature freeze and then go for a string freeze.

What is the issue with tutorials? I may be able to look into these since I got them building from the docs on my machine.

Clarification: I only tested the English versions, don't know if the translations show the same rendering issues.

Inkscape should not be releases before fixing: bug #377958 : save as "Plain SVG" keeps inkscape:path-effect tags and attributes as it affects rendering when loaded by Inkscape.

Can someone give me a pointer on how to fix this?
Thnx, Johan

I think sp_path_write and sp_lpe_item_write should do
if (flags & SP_OBJECT_WRITE_EXT)
when writing these extension attributes.

Thanks Bulia, I think I fixed it.

Well, at least I tried ;-) That's fine with me - it's definitely not a blocker for 0.47, more a good-to-have-if-possible because it's an annoying non-working feature but no crasher. I added it because in my perception artistic use(rs) of Inkscape have a strong voice/support in the development process (and certainly are the main target audience) whereas geometric/technical use(rs) have to adjust to what works and hope for the inclusion of the geometry constructions tool/lpe in 0.48. I know I only recently got involved with Inkscape and its development process and have certainly missed many discussions about this topic last year or earlier - so please bear with me if my view and request is out of line with the goals for 0.47. Certainly the recent improvements of snapping and guides are very useful and appreciated additions to support geometric drawing with Inkscape.

Sorry for my late reply, my connection was broken for about one week...
About Image primitive in filters it's not completely implemented and thus I avoided to use it in any filters I designed for 0.47.
