Flags are generally considered a bad choice of symbol to represent a language, because as you know flags represent countries, but languages often (mostly!) don't respect political boundaries.
However there is one thing worse than a flag: that's two or three flags mixed into one. For example you have a mixture of the Union Jack and US flag for English. I don't mind the Union Jack representing English, because they invented the language, but when you mix in the US flag it says "we are politically correct, so we went to a lot of effort not to offend by adding in all the countries that speak this language". But that creates more offence when you leave a country out. Hint: many more countries outside of US/UK speak English as a first language.

Honestly, I think using flags is kind of a losing proposition, as they are inherently political instruments.
