I just noticed yesterday that the latest nightly Gtk2 builds of Mozilla and Firefox appear to be using the new Gtk2.4 FileChooserDialog. It might be interesting to find out how their audience rates the usability of it.

I think typeahead is implemented in GTK 2.5.x but not 2.4 and there are no plans to backport it :(
