Yes. Fortunately this is one case where support from OS/widget librariws is almost universal. In the ideal world, Inkscape won't even have to do anything for this: each decent OS will have native support for SVG, and will have optional preview widget in all its file dialogs. So what we have now is more like a temporary hack, not something that we'll have to support in perpetuity.
