Yeah, that's because the uploading user didn't know the trick, and because that change is more recent, I believe. Fixed it, so it won't confuse users anymore.

But I think I see what you mean. If there's no file, and there is an external link, the link is getting applied to the thumbnail.
I might test it later, just so I understand it. Right now, we have some kind of an issue with those images which look like a gray piece of paper with a jagged white line across the middle (on the first page of the gallery). Apparently they aren't really images. I just made a bug report, at Martin's request.
But I think I'll wait a little while for that to get cleared up, before I try a test.
