Hi Fellow Moderators,
Let's welcome a new moderator to our little team! Jake (or JAK3) has
joined us yesterday.
I also want to take this opportunity to mention sort of a new kind of
spam which we are now recognizing (and of course deleting, along with the
member). The discussions about it happened on the dev mailing list, and I'm not
sure if all the moderators saw it.
Regarding images which could have been made with Inkscape, but you suspect, for one reason or another, that it wasn't. For example,
-- You're trying to figure out why they used such a tiny blur value, when you suddenly realize it's not a blur, but a raster image which has been saved or format converted too many times.
-- Or maybe the name of the image is a long string of random characters.
-- Or maybe (and yes, we have seen this) the image actually has a copyright symbol on it, or even a watermark claiming a copyright (license).
-- Often they are JPGs, and often uploaded in the wrong category.
There are many of these reasons, and I can't think of them all at the moment. But for any image you think might not be made with Inkscape, you can try searching for it on https://tineye.com/, which is a reverse image search. If you see the image has a page full (or more) of results, and associated with all kinds of different people, it likely was not made with Inkscape, or by the member who uploaded it.
In these cases, remember to also flag the member, so he or she can be deleted as well.
Anyway, thanks again to all the moderators who are helping with our mission to keep the gallery clean and awesome!
(As a reminder, unfortunately not all moderators are subscribed to the mailing list. I have to copy this message to the website messaging system for some. So we can't really develop a discussion thread where everyone is involved. But if anyone is interested, the team has a private chatroom, where we could meet for a chat. Just let me know.)
All best,
brynn
