Hi Friends,
Just in case someone wants to review it, I've changed the Tutorials page slightly. As it was a little wall of text at the bottom, I took the instructions about how to participate off, and put them on a separate page. So the page itself is only tutorials, and the instructions are separate.

Hi Brynn,
thank you for taking the time to improve our tutorials section!
I think it is just a little bit strange that there are a couple of images underneath some text.
I also think that maybe we could try to review and improve Tavs manual. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.html It is really comprehensive, it will only (and I know this is only a word but it will be a huge work if we decide to do it) need to be updated.
I would also add Logos By Nick on the section of tutorials. His explanations are really good and he uses a lot of Inkscape.
Comments? :)
Thanks, Victor

The licence of Tav's manual is too restrictive: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/ . See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_content .

Hi Shlomi, aren't we able to fork his manual and go from there?
What would be the license of our manual to make sure everyone can use and take advantage of it? Public domain? Or copy left?

Well, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IANAL but I think that in order to legally fork a copyrighted work, its licence must explicitly allow it.

There can be several licences that could be considered acceptable, see e.g: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons_license . Copyleft is a general concept and there are several licences that qualify as strong copyleft or weak copyleft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyleft . Any of PD/CC0 , CC-by, CC-by-sa, CC-by-nc, and CC-by-nc-sa should allow forking and fair use.

Hi Victor, Thanks for taking a look. When you mention "images underneath some text" I guess you mean the gallery plugins. Generally those will be the video tutorials. But there will be some PDFs, like the one you can see there now.
Actually I debated back and forth about using the gallery for this, and instead, using only text links. But I think it will look better when there are more gallery items there. (If there gets to be too many, we might have to go back to text links, just to save space!)
This is unrelated to the Tutorials page of course, but no one can edit the current unofficial official manual except for Tav.
However, we have had discussions in the past about creating a new community managed manual. I think everyone currently is tied up with getting 1.0 out the door, and other projects, before we can start talking about such a major endeavor. But that is definitely one of the things which I hope the new Docs team can tackle!
Regarding tutorials of Nick. As you may recall, when I first published the new Tutorials page, I sent out a batch email to all the tutorial authors I know (including Nick) introducing them to the new page, and inviting to join the Docs team.
I thought I would give it a couple of weeks for any response to that. And after that, I will start to review tutorials myself, and start adding them as appropriate. I'm trying to focus on the Vectors team meeting coming up tomorrow, and then getting the 2 items going which I want to bring up. And after that, maybe I can start re-reviewing tutorials, and adding them to the page.
Also, I hope, now that the project is providing a place for tutorials, authors will want to put any new tutorials here, rather than on their own servers. As I've mentioned, this is a major change which we're trying to make, in the way the whole community approaches tutorials. It will be a process over some time, to get from where we are now, to where we want to be. But I'm confident we will get there!
Btw, you're welcome to join the new Docs team, if you like. Anyone, everyone is welcome!
All best, brynn
