I found another problem I'm afraid. I've been able to commit changes to my fork all of yesterday with all pipelines passing. But today it may appear that my commits all went through, because I can see the changes reflected in the GitLab preview, but almost all the pipelines failed. The error logs are too generic to understand the problem.
My project ID is 51182168, named manuals_DMilkes. Would you be able to diagnose this? I'm ready to merge what I have but don't want to spread the problem over to the main repo.

After digging through your first failed pipeline logs, at a point shows this warning:
/builds/DMilkes/manuals-d-milkes/Inkscape-Beginners-Guide/source/installing-on-windows.rst:195: ERROR: Unknown target name: "inkscape".
I think it is the underscore after "Inkscape" on line 195 that causes the pipeline to fail. Quoting the changed installing-on-windows.rst:
Once the download and installation is complete click Inkscape_. A descriptive blurb for the application appears.
Maybe removing it helps? I've not examined other pipeline logs so there may be other issues.
