Hello all,
I'd like to know how I could translate the most recent version of the manual /Inkscape: Guide to a Vector Drawing Program/ into French. I looked at this page: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/DocumentationTranslation#User_Manual Do I need an account on Sourceforge to access the XML document? I tried to checkout the URL with Subversion and it didn't work.
Also, the current French translation: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html_fr/index.html indicates that the last release of the manual is 0.15 (and I think that's bad). You should replace this number with 0.16.
Lastly, I hope it will be possible to reuse the previous translation easily (otherwise, I probably won't take the time to make a nice translation).
Thank you in advance, -- Sylvain Chiron
Dear Sylvain,
I think for this, you would have to contact Tavmjong Bah directly, as is stated here: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/
For your decision, you need to know that the book is under a proprietary licence, and hasn't been updated for Inkscape 0.91.
If you're looking for a collaborative project, there is also this manual:
http://en.flossmanuals.net/inkscape/
which is licenced freely, but is also outdated, unfortunately (last edited in 2010, I think).
This manual can be improved and translated freely. The website offering to do this has only recently been updated.
It seems it's working again now (I tried some months before, but couldn't get an account, yesterday it worked).
Also be sure to read up on this topic in the archives of this list to understand the current status a little better (messages by Elisa de Castro Guerra and jazzynico).
There's also a French introductory book here: http://fr.flossmanuals.net/initiation-inkscape/_info/
Kind regards, Maren

Which topic?
As I've indicated in earlier discussions, I'd be happy to contribute to any effort in helping to write an open manual :-)

Hi Brynn,
There have been several threads about this over the last few years. Sylvain will need to use the search functionality of the archives (key words: the mentioned names, and 'manual') if he wants to know more about this.
Brynn, it's now possible to edit the open manual any time. Just create an account here: http://en.flossmanuals.net
and then you can edit this: http://en.flossmanuals.net/inkscape/
Kind regards, Maren
