Language Redirect
I've put in a 302 redirect into nginx on the website to tell it to redirect anyone going to inkscape.org/ to inkscape.org/en/ if you notice that the website is now always going to english on this page, that is intended.
The background to this is that 20% of the webserver's resources were being used redirecting people from / to their language of choice like /de/ or /fr/ and the code and the database queries were /really/ very bad.
Despite the loss in automatic language redirection for the landing page, please open a bug report in lp:inkscape-web if you need this feature. It'll take a while to write something that isn't quite so demanding on the resources of the machine.
You should notice a slight speed improvement on the website.

Thanks, Martin, for investigating the speed issues.
While it's unfortunate that the consequences consist of removing functionality (the 'I favourited this item' frames are gone, too, I think because they ate too many resources), I agree that it's more important that we are able to edit and view the site within a reasonable amount of time. People will hopefully discover the language switcher easily (but I think many will just go with the English page now).
I will create that bug report just to remind us that the functionality was lost, in case there's some server resource improvement or other thing that frees up resources so we can put that back in.
Regards, Maren

Hurrah! Oh, it wasn't so bad these times. But sure, it's the good choice.

Or their search engine may direct them to the index in their language. https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=inkscape

I'm interested in that functionality: typing ‘inkscape’ in my address field then pressing Ctrl-Shift-Enter to go to the Inkscape website in my language just perfectly reminds that I am a French Firefox user. A foreign person using a different browser wouldn't get the same result at all. -- Sylvain
