I want to help to translate the documentation to German but I was not able to find any link to a German version. Can you give me any pointers? Where should I start? Who should I talk too?

ok...so i have set up the translation FM. What languages do we want for the Inkscape manual? (Just the list of languages we have had people say they have an interest in translating for now)

I'd love to do a Latin translation, but I don't know it well enough ;)
However, I'd be happy to be the guy who sets up translations in the future, if you want to teach me. I'd even be happy to skype-meet to learn.

I'd be happy to do it this week. Fortunately mornings are best for me, which means you're awake when I'm available (I assume :)
Unfortunately I have just installed Xubuntu (I'm sure you're happy about that) and haven't worked out the sound issues (mostly just getting my mic to work). I'll be on skype, though, and we can at least chat. Best time is probably when you're available and I respond.

BTW - contrary to all my misgivings, Ubuntu has been very easy to use and set up (once I got past the stupid network manager not allowing static ips problem - I spent days figuring that out on 3 computers!) Thanks for talking it up to me, it inspired me more to do it. I even got my dovecot mail server working very easily, which was my biggest worry!

BTW, for anyone interested, I did end up getting the job I interviewed for two days after the BS :)
We're very happy about it. But we'll be very busy too. We're moving to Marion, OH, US around the 22nd of July.
I hope to get some translating and writing done anyway, but it will be sparse, unfortunately, until I get settled in. I'd be very happy to have a bug put into my ear about the more important things to do, even while I'm busy, because then I'll make some time for them. So don't be shy, especially Alexandre (as we're the English team right now, and you are probably doing work on it as we speak).

So...now that there's code in Inkscape to use standard icon sets for stuff like the menus and toolbars, do we really want to put those icons in the manual? Maybe it would be better to just say i.e. "click the Paste button on the toolbar"?
I've got arguments in my head for and against both methods.
