Furthermore, this may not be the right place or time but I suggest renaming the feature to "Show/hide other layers" as it is described in the 0.47 release notes http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/ReleaseNotes047 since this describes exactly what it does.

I agree - this would make more sense to uniform this and make it easier to understand for people and easier to translate.
