TBH I'd prefer if the nb_NO translation was just stripped. I'm probably there since I contributed a few fixes (mostly search and replace of the most hopeless ones), but making a full translation that's actually comprehensible and not riddled with insanely bad language is going to be a lot of work.

the GNU tools will modify the .po files as the number of translatable strings will grow. So it keeps the old translations if they do not change. So in theory you only have to touch those strings that have been added or changed. To edit po files I use a software that can group strings (translated, not translated, dodgy). It is called poEdit http://www.poedit.org/ . A software like this might help your work.
